Life Story - the short version

IMG_2218.HEIC

Peter Wynne-Willson was born in Bristol in 1959, and has lived most of his life in Birmingham, where he is still based, in Handsworth.  After a Drama Degree at Manchester University he moved back home in 1981 and was involved in setting up Big Brum Theatre-in-Education Company, remaining as Artistic Director there until 1992.  Since becoming freelance, he has divided his time between writing, directing and teaching, most of it centred around Theatre for Young Audiences.  From 2015-2022 he was Course Director fo Applied Theatre at Birmingham Conservatoire.

In recent years he has developed a strong link with South Korea, having originally gone to Seoul in 1999 to spend the first of three spells as Visiting Professor of Theatre-in-Education, at the Korean National University of the Arts.  It is a fruitful link which has led to many exciting collaborative projects with Korean artists, many of them for the company which he set up for the purpose -  Hanyong Theatre Company.

In addition to writing and directing for TYA [Theatre for Young Audiences], he still spends much of his time working directly with young people in schools or early years settings, doing drama or story-making, writing residencies, and short courses.
