Plays for Young Performers

 

These plays were written for performance by young people in schools and have large casts.

Nativity

Commissioned by Birmingham Rep for performance in City Centre Gardens, and created with pupils from Nelson School.  The performance was a modern take on the traditional nativity, was narrated by TV Presenter Nick Owen, and included a real donkey.

Drybones

Commissioned by Leighswood Primary School in Aldridge, this play was performed by Year 6 pupils, directed by Jon Morris, and was based on the history of the school site in Aldridge as a mine, nicknamed  Drybones.

Singing Round the Fire

Commissioned by Byng Kenrick Central School in Tile Cross, Birmingham.  Commissioned as a celebration of the Centernary of the School, this musical play travelled back through time exploring the school's unique journey through history.

El Mono

Commissioned by MAC Birmingham, and performed by primary school pupils from three schools across the city, along with Chilean Panpipe group Caliche.  The play tells the story of the animals of the rainforest, the Andes mountains and the high plains of South America.  The children play a range of animals, with a number of original songs to traditional Andean tunes.
